Studio HAVN were appointed as the Architects & Interior Designers for the refurbishment of an existing Hotel on the coast in St Ives, Cornwall. The scope of work also included the design and construction of five new Lodges, along with a Spa Building, Pool and Pool House.
The design intent was to restore the existing structure and many of its original features back into use for contemporary living. The Manor was renovated to include 19 luxury residences, along with five new lodge style Townhouses within the wider estate, offering a selection of one, two and three bedroom homes set atop the bluffs of Carbis Bay, overlooking the crystal blue waters of Cornwall.
Each residence at the residence is unique, maintaining its period details from the former Manor House, built in the 19th Century. These specifically include decorative plasterwork such as cornicing and mouldings, timber panelling, stained glass windows and ornately decorated fireplaces. Set within its original splendour, we sought to provide a contemporary touch to the overall design, whilst, still allowing for continuity and familiarity as one moves throughout the spaces. Materials are natural and praised for their unique qualities, whether they be timber, stone, metals such as bronze and brass or even raw fabrics like linens and cashmeres. Layered upon this palette are individual elements that bring out the nature of the material as well as to complement it, in the form of furniture, lighting, fine art and sculpture, to name but a few.
